The United States Mission Nigeria has condemned last night’s bombing of Nyanya, Abuja which has taken the lives of at least 19 people with 60 others injured.
The fresh bombing comes just two weeks after a bomb went off in the town’s motor park, claiming more than 70 lives.
The US embassy in a statement today noted that the attack was an attack on democracy, even as it reiterated its support for the government in the face of the Boko Haram attacks.
“The United States Embassy strongly condemns last evening’s explosion in Nyanya, on the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who were killed or injured in this heinous act.
“This attack is not only on innocent people but on a democratic nation itself. Lawless violence and intimidation have no place in a democracy.
“We continue to stand with the Nigerian government and people as they face the threat of violent extremism,” the statement read.
