Rivers To Improve On Education Sector

The Rivers state Government today held an educational summit in Port harcourt, Rivers State.
The programme which had school principals across the state, parents and students’ representatives from different schools of the state is aimed at enlightening stakeholders on the role to be played in order to improve the educational sector in the state.
The government was irked by the poor perfomance of the  students in the state in public examinations especially WAEC, NECO and JAMB.
The purpose for the summit was to brainstorm on the best way(s) to transform the educational sector for the benefit of future generations.
Speaking on the cause of the students set back, the  State Governor,Mr Rotimi Amaechi, said it was an understatement to describe the standard of education as decayed noting that there is no education all let alone decadence.
“To say education is decayed is an understatement because there has being no education in the past.”
Amaechi stated that the parents are the primary mentor of their children morally, while the teachers were meant to educate the student both morally and educationally.
“The main set back of the students comes from the parent. They are to follow up what they learnt from their parent and bring it to the school, either positive or nagative. Its hereby the responsibilty of the teachers to reform the orientation of the students so as to be a good ambassador in the future”.
However, the governor promised to do all it takes to aid good learning and teaching environment for both the students and the teachers, adding that by next general examination, the Rivers State students should be among the first ten best students in the country.
“The primary and secondary schools, likewise the tetiary institutions in the state shall be equiped to enjoy educational quality in the state, and not forgetting the teachers”.
He also implored everyone to have the deternination of moving the state to the grater level.
“I urge everybody here to have it in mind that we are all here to move this state to the next level and we all need to contribute to the development”.
