The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that two female suicide bombers attempted to infiltrate Maiduguri township from Mafa/Dikwa axis.
A statement from DSP Victor Isuku, Police Public Relations Officer on Monday said, “The suicide bombers were sighted by vigilant security personnel deployed on atrol.
“Apparently startled by the presence of the security patrol team, and in order to avoid arrest, one of the bombers hurriedly detonated her IED vest killing herself and her partner in a nearby farmland close to NDLEA checkpoint along Maiduguri /Mafa highway, outskirt of Maiduguri township. No other casualty recorded.
“Police patrol /EOD teams were mobilized to sanitize the scene /vicinity, and render the unexploded IED vest of the second bomber safe.”
In another development, Boko Haram terrorists fleeing from the ongoing clearance operation in one of their hideouts in Gambo Yukku forest have been killed by troops of 5 Brigade Garrison, Gubio, Borno State.
A statement from Col. Timothy Antigha, Deputy Director Public Relations 8 Task Force Division, made available to DAILY POST, hinted that “troops were on routine patrol in Aisaram village, Gubio Local Government Area, as part of the clearance operations, when at about 6:20 am this morning, 2 Boko Haram terrorists riding horses attempted to outflank them, but were spotted by vigilant troops and shot during the fire fight.”
“Items recovered from the dead terrorists include an AK 47 riffle, a magazine with a single round of 7.62 millimeters ammunition and 2 machetes. Other items recovered include 2 mobile phones, 2 horses and 7000 Naira cash.
No soldier sustained any injury or was lost during the operation,” the statement added.
