President Goodluck Jonathan read a riot act to the new service chiefs asking them to perform excellently or risk being fired.
Jonathan reportedly gave this marching order at the State House in Abuja today during a National Security Council meeting which lasted for over five hours.
The meeting, which started at 10.30am and ended at 3.30pm, was attended by the new service chiefs: Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh, Chief of Army Staff Major-General Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah, Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Usman O. Jibrin takes and Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar and the Director-General of the Department of State Security Service, Ita Ekpeyong.
Also in attendance were National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Anyim Pius Anyim, Information Minister Labaran Maku, Special Duties Minister Kabiru Turaki, Interior Minister Abba Moro, Justice Minister Mohammed Adoke, among others.
Although all the service chiefs refused to speak to journalists after the meeting, a source at the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Jonathan asked the new service chiefs to bring insecurity to an end very soon.
