Police Take Over Benue House of Assembly as Impeachment Notice is Served on Governor

There is tension in Benue State as some members of the State House of Assembly have moved to commence impeachment proceedings against the Governor of the State, Mr. Samuel Ortom.

Eight members of the State House of Assembly sat and served impeachment notice on Governor Ortom.  Ortom’s spokesman, Tahav Agerzua confirmed that the lawmakers had served the impeachment notice on his boss.

Our correspondent gathered that as early as 6am many youths had trooped to the gate of the Assembly complex to take positions as a result of alleged plot to remove the Governor.

However, tension grew further when some other youths who were against Ortom also arrived and both camps threatened fire and brimstones over the plot.

Policemen from the state command of the Nigeria Police have taken over the premises apparently to forestall any violence. The Nigeria Politics Online gathered that the tension is on as a result of some members who have perfected a plot to remove the governor.

The governor announced his plan to leave the All Progressive Congress few days ago after indicating that all leaders of opinion in the state have given him the red card to quit the party.
