Police Shut Kano Assembly Over Planned Speaker’s Removal

Men of the Nigerian Police Force Kano Command have taken over the premises of the Kano State House of Assembly Over plans by members of the House to remove the Speaker.
As early as 8am today, the stern looking security had taken positions at the complex and prevented journalists from gaining access into the Assembly complex.
The plot to remove the Speaker is said to have been fueled by allegations that the Speaker Abdullahi Atta has failed to carry the members along in the affairs of the House.

Our Correspondent reports that no fewer than four police vehicles and three Civil defence vehicles were seen mounting the entrance of the assembly and movement is restricted around the Assembly.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Musa Majia confirmed deployment of police to the assembly, saying it was simply meant to prevent law and order.

Speaking on telephone interview, the embattled speaker, who had earlier ordered for suspension of all activities in the house until after Eid-El Kabir festivity, said as a Muslim who believes in destiny either good or bad, he will accept his impeachment in good faith.
