Embattled Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye, was today moved by masked operatives from the Police clinic in Garki, Abuja, where he was receiving treatment.
According to reports, the Senator was taken away in an unmarked vehicle to an undisclosed location.
Recall that Melaye had slumped while he was being taken into custody after he surrendered to the Police and was taken to the police infirmary in Garki. The Police had earlier laid siege on his home in Maitama, Abuja for a week before he surrendered.
According to the Police, the lawmaker was arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide.
Police React to Dino Melaye’s Evacuation From Clinic
The Nigeria Police Force on Friday has said Senator Dino Melaye was moved from the Police Clinic, Abuja, to DSS medical facility due to complaints.
According to the Force, the senator complaints that he was unwell informed the decision of the evacuation. It also denied reports that the operatives who evacuated the lawmaker were masked.
The Police also revelead that it had obtained a warrant to keep the embattled Senator in its custody for 14 days.
The force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement explained that the warrant which was obtained from the Federal Capital Territory High Court on January 9, 2019, to enable the police to investigate Melaye for criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide.
The statement said, “The Police medical team at the Police Hospital certified that Melaye is well and healthy to stand trial after treating him.
“However, due to complaints from Senator Melaye that he is not well, the Police Investigation Team has taken him this afternoon (Friday) to another government hospital, DSS Medical Facility in Abuja for further medical attention.
“The Police Investigation Team obtained a 14-day remand warrant from the FCT High Court on January 9 to keep Senator Melaye in Police custody for investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against him till January 23, 2019.”
